Black Alumni of Dartmouth Association

BADA: Est. 1972

Dear Friends-

Depending on where you are, spring may have sprung! Or mud season. Or (if you are me) you are still looking at piles of snow. No matter what the view from your window is, Happy April from BADA.

A few short points that we wanted to tell our members about:

First, congrats to our AADA chairs for putting on a successful event in L.A. last month. AADA is a pilot program to focus on outreach and programming for BADA members living in, or recently hailing from, countries on the African continent. Ngozi Udeh '15, one of our AADA chairs, planned a meet-up open to all BADA members to attend the world premiere of “Good Grief” written by Ngozi Anyanwu. It was a well-attended event and a good time was had by all! BADA members even got to meet the playwright!

Secondly, if you’ve been in Hanover the last few months, I hope you had a chance to stop by the library to see “a long, long way to go…” an exhibit honoring the Duane Gibbs '76 and William Rice '76 Memorial Book Fund. The 40th anniversary of Gibbs's, Rice's, and their friends' graduation provides the opportunity to explore the African American educational experience at Dartmouth in and around 1976. This exhibit explores the development of the African and African American Studies Program, the life and work of Errol Hill, an African American educator at Dartmouth, and works by African American authors in the Library's collections. A reception will be held on April 10th at 3:30 in Hanover, with President Hanlon and Provost Dever in attendance. Please try to make it if you are in the area!

BADA Boston is next up for a gathering, as they will be hosting a Spring Social on April 27 at 7:00 PM at La Fabrica Central. It will be a time to check in, meet anyone new to the area and do planning for the year ahead. Click here to RSVP: https://www.facebook.com/events/143446349517782/. This event is open to Black Alumni of Dartmouth Association folks, alumni, current students, newly accepted students, friends and family members. RSVP will help us coordinate with the restaurant for food and beverages.

Speaking of newly accepted students, acceptance letters (well, secured website posts, to be exact) went out on March 31. We would really like help making sure all admitted black students get a phone call from a BADA member congratulating them an offering to help with any questions as the students make their college decision. Want to be part of our efforts? Please respond to this email and let us know!

Also, yet another SAVE THE DATE for the BADA reunion from September 28, 2017 to October 1 in Hanover.  Our planning committee is hammering out details around the schedule and using feedback from the last reunion as well as our D.C. mini. We think you will really enjoy the programming, which will focus on highlighting our members’ accomplishments as we seek to support each other, our students, and faculty/staff. Want to help plan? Please respond to this email to join the committee!

Lastly, a letter should be arriving in your mailboxes this week as a final push in our dues drive. Please become a dues-paying member of BADA today so that we can continue to do great, and accessible, programming! If you want to pay dues online please follow this link. Alternatively, you may download the dues form there, and mail it on.

As always, remember to check out our website, the BADA Talks Facebook page, or the regional BADA facebook pages for updates and make sure your contact information with alumni relations is current!

In friendship,

Leah Threatte Bojnowski ‘01
